More than 37,000 votes were cast to select three volleyball players of the week in the state.
Shelby Holderfield of Grissom was chosen in North Alabama while Anna Wood of Shelby County earned the Central Alabama nod and Kevi Hansen of Edgewood Academy was selected in South Alabama.
Grissom’s Holderfield led the Tigers to an 8-3 record last week, including fifth-place in the Huntsville Ironman Tournament. The senior setter/outside hitter provided 76 kills, 92 assists (five errors), 20 aces, 61 digs and 48 serve-reception passes with only four errors.
She picked up 6,610 votes to 4,065 for second-place Katie Dempsey of Belgreen.
Shelby County’s Wood was perfect on 48 serves, including 17 aces, adding 29 kills with a .345 hitting percentage in three matches last week.
Wood garnered 2,332 votes while Jacoby Sims of Oak Mountain was second with 1,677.
Edgewood’s Hansen provided 35 kills, 40 digs, eight blocks and three aces in two matches last week.
Hansen received the most votes from fans with 11,115 to 8,334 for Hannah Lawless of Straughn.
