State high school volleyball update: 4A top-ranked St. James wins 3 matches

Class 4A top-ranked St. James won three matches without dropping a set this week.

The Trojans (20-8) beat Jeff Davis 2-0, Montgomery-Catholic 3-0 and sixth-ranked Trinity 3-0.

Carson Ann Crow led the attack with 30 kills and 22 digs while Hannah Dailey had 22 kills, 13 digs and eight blocks. Lindsey Sampson added 30 digs, four aces and two assists.

St. James hasn’t suffered an in-class loss this season. The Trojans have three losses to Class 3A second-ranked Montgomery Academy, three losses to out of state teams, a loss to Class 7A Prattville and a loss to Class 6A Muscle Shoals.

St. James has won two state titles, earning the Class 4A crown in 2001 and 2003.

CLASS 7A

Second-ranked Mountain Brook (30-6) beat fifth-ranked Bob Jones in its only match this week.

Emmy Kilgore had 21 digs, 10 kills and three blocks while Lacey Jeffcoat had six aces and nine digs, Caroline Davies had eight kills and two blocks, Ellie Ritter had six kills and six blocks, and Libby Grace Gann had 29 assists and 13 digs.

Third-ranked Huntsville (26-8) beat Gadsden City and sixth-ranked Grissom.

Hannah Barrett had 36 assists while Savannah Combs had 19 digs and seven aces, Sabrina Duncan had 25 assists, 20 kills and seven aces, Jaden Flint had 25 kills, 13 digs and seven blocks, and Drew Hales had 10 kills and nine blocks.

Fourth-ranked Hoover (26-11) beat ninth-ranked Vestavia Hills and Spain Park. Paige Shaw had 17 kills against Vestavia and Nora Webster added 17 kills.

Fifth-ranked Bob Jones (17-11) lost to No. 10 James Clemens and second-ranked Mountain Brook.

Alana Cox had 27 kills and nine blocks while Aija Abele had 60 assists, Emma Jarrett had 15 kills, Karmahn Hall had 22 digs and  Myra Wallace had 19 digs.

Seventh-ranked Oak Mountain beat Prattville and Thompson as Torie Denkers had 16 kills and two blocks, Jacoby Sims had 11 kills and two aces, and Ashley Treace had 14 assists and four digs.

Baker (10-18) beat LeFlore and lost to Faith Academy and Class 6A fifth-ranked Daphne. Addison Genard had 16 kills, two blocks and six aces while Abby Allen had 17 digs and six aces.

Sparkman (15-12) beat Danville, Buckhorn and No. 10 James Clemens, and lost to Class 6A top-ranked Hazel Green.

Jasmine Brooks had 43 kills and 21 blocks while Dailyn Hereford had 36 kills and Arianna Haynes had 36 kills.

CLASS 6A

Second-ranked Spanish Fort (25-4) beat Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic and Gulf Shores as Carley Hamric had 31 kills, seven blocks and six digs. Reilly Vought added 56 assists with 20 digs and five kills, and Taylor Fontenelle led the team with 49 digs in the two matches.

Third-ranked Hartselle beat Austin and Athens this week as Megan Zuck picked up career kill 2,000 against Austin. Zuck had 17 kills against Austin and five against Athens.

Hayden Hanserd had 21 kills for the week while Gabrielle Bili added 67 assists and 10 kills, and Jordan Finn had 15 digs.

Chelsea (23-5) downed area foes Helena and Pelham to clinch the Area 8 regular season title.

Lexie Riggins led the Hornets with 34 digs, 19 kills and seven blocks while Jules Hamer had 24 kills and 12 digs, Ashley Mock had 30 digs and 29 assists, and Taylor Hackett had 33 digs and 16 assists.

Muscle Shoals (22-10) beat Haleyville and Cordova as Kaitlin Bohannon provided 21 assists and four aces, Christalyn Allen had 10 kills and seven digs and Hannah Rue had eight kills and seven digs.

Gulf Shores (8-14) beat Robertsdale and lost to top-ranked Spanish Fort. Avery Rodgers had 17 kills, 17 assists and nine digs while Peyton Gober had eight aces, 18 kills and 30 digs.

CLASS 5A

Top-ranked St. Paul’s (24-5) beat Class 2A top-ranked St. Luke’s, Williamson and Vigor as Kelly Honkanen had 13 kills and four blocks.

Third-ranked Lawrence County (31-8) beat Madison County, Austin, Russellville, Class 2A sixth-ranked Hatton, Class 5A fifth-ranked Guntersville and Good Hope.

Ally Craig had 41 kills and 33 blocks while Bradee Garner had 35 kills, 21 blocks — she surpassed 800 career blocks this week — and 10 digs, and Laekyn Bennett had 126 assists.

Faith Academy (12-6) beat Baker and Leflore and lost to Alma Bryant. Unique Thompson had 15 kills and four blocks while Aaliyah Austin had 13 kills and six blocks, and Kristen Mitternight had 24 digs.

Scottsboro beat North Jackson, Pisgah and Douglas, and lost to Crossville and eighth-ranked Arab. Abby Jones had a career high 11 kills and four blocks against Pisgah and added 11 kills and two blocks in the match against Douglas.

CLASS 4A

Eighth-ranked Wilson (16-8) beat Rogers and Central-Florence behind 20 kills, 21 digs and four aces from Maria Mask while Tori Walker had 18 kills, 20 blocks and three aces, and Kayla Gooch had 49 assists.

Satsuma (9-4) downed Citronelle and UMS-Wright as Cameron Andrews had 16 kills and Taylor Cross added 16 aces.

W.S. Neal (8-4) beat Central (Fla.) Escambia, and lost to T.R. Miller. Dinah Samuel had 40 kills while Erin Salter had 25 service winners out of 39 attempts and Cidney Scott had 50 assists.

CLASS 3A

Fifth-ranked Carbon Hill (43-5) beat Hewitt-Trussville, Spain Park, Oakman and Corner.

Ricki-Jill Burrough had 35 kills while Alyssa Dutton had five aces, 35 kills and 13 blocks, Lacey Evans had five aces, 32 kills and 59 digs, and Molly Kate Atkins had seven aces, 11 kills, 20 digs and 106 assists.

No. 10 Plainview (26-6) beat Fort Payne, Collinsville, Sylvania and Pisgah.

Olivia Graham had 42 digs, 18 kills and five aces while Karli Owens had 18 digs, 26 kills and seven aces, and Jaylah Martin had 11 digs, 48 assists and 12 aces.

Cottage Hill (13-13) beat Clarke County and lost to top-ranked Bayside Academy. Jasmine Vo had 23 assists and five aces, and Kahlen Hughes had 17 digs.

CLASS 2A

Top-ranked St. Luke’s (22-9) lost to Class 5A top-ranked St. Paul's and beat Chickasaw twice.

Jordan Odom had 34 digs in the three matches, adding 17 aces against Chickasaw while Elizabeth Thompson had five kills and five blocks against St. Paul’s.

Fourth-ranked Altamont (20-1) beat Tarrant and Fultondale as Ashley Sharff had 33 assists, eight digs and 12 aces. Marinna Dorolek added 13 kills and 26 digs, and Abby Sharff had 10 kills, 22 digs and 12 aces.

No. 10 Falkville (8-15) beat West Limestone and St. Bernard, and lost to Class 3A seventh-ranked West Morgan.

Brooke Alexander had 24 Kills, while Emily Hill had nine aces and 43 assists, and Bailey Engle had nine back row kills and 31 assists.

CLASS 1A

Second-ranked Decatur Heritage (24-5) beat Lindsay Lane and sixth-ranked Athens Bible behind 64 assists, 16 kills, 14 digs and four aces from Kaitlyn Cheatham. Kayla Grimes added 45 kills, 12 blocks and five aces, and Cassidy Cheatham had 36 digs and three aces.

Belgreen (13-9) beat Tharptown and Cherokee, and lost to seventh-ranked Phillips and Covenant Christian. Katie Dempsey with 13 kills against Tharptown while Ansley Tate had 12 kills.

Waterloo beat Covenant Christian as Jasmine White had 21 kills, 13 digs and three aces, Jurnee Haggard had 13 kills and two aces, and Abby Austin had 25 digs, 13 assists and three aces.

AISA

Second-ranked Macon East (14-2) beat fourth-ranked Glenwood as Bailey Williams had 18 kills  and five aces while Sami Nesbitt had 11 kills and five aces, and Madisyn Kennedy had 12 kills and two blocks.

Sixth-ranked Edgewood Academy (15-3) beat Montgomery’s Ezekiel Academy, Cornerstone Christian and Eastwood Christian.

Kevi Hansen had 46 kills and 43 digs while KK Glenn had 23 kills and Peyton Rodie had 41 digs.

Walker coach Bobby Daniels earned career win No. 600 on Tuesday with a victory over Gardendale.

Isabella coach Glenn Graham picked up career win No. 500 on Monday against Jemison.
