MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The UE Red Warriors finally entered the winning column of the UAAP by winning the first Pumaren Bowl of Season 79, 64-57, against the Adamson Soaring Falcons on Sunday, October 2, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

The game featured brothers and former champion coaches Derrick Pumaren and Franz Pumaren, who were calling the shots for UE and Adamson, respectively. The Red Warriors trailed by double digits in the third period but rallied to steal the win in the fourth period, where the Falcons went ice cold from the field.

Alvin Pasaol led UE with 13 points and 7 boards while RR De Leon had his best game of the season with 12 points and 4 boards. The Red Warriors forced the Falcons to 23 turnovers, leading to 15 points.

Papi Sarr led Adamson with 13 points and 25 rebounds, while rookie Jerrick Ahanmisi added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

UE out-scored Adamson 24-12 in the fourth period. After entering the quarter ahead 45-40, the Falcons didn’t score until under 6 minutes left when Rob Manalang converted a lay-up. By then, UE had taken control of the game and hit enough shots late to hold on for the win. – Rappler.com
