Ateneo surrenders early lead but recovers to down still-winless UE

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles surrendered a 17-2 lead in the first quarter but went on another rally in the third period to take control of the game and cruise to a 84-69 victory over the UE Red Warriors on Saturday, September 24, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Anton Asistio led Ateneo with 21 points and 4 3-pointers, while Adrian Wong added 17 points in the victory for Ateneo, which improved to 3-2 in UAAP Season 79.

Mike Nieto and Chi Ikeh each scored 11 points and combined for 13 boards in the winning effort.

UE, which is now 0-5, was led by the 22 points of Alvin Pasaol. Bon Batiller added 11 points in the loss where the Warriors sent the Blue Eagles to the free throw line 52 times.

Ateneo, which out-scored UE 28-14 in the third period after coming out of the halftime break down 32-30, shot 49% from the floor including 7-of-18 from deep. – Rappler.com
