MANILA, Philippines - It took them 27 tries, but the UE Lady Warriors finally won a set in the women's volleyball tournament of UAAP Season 77.

Unfortunately for them, that was all they could muster against the FEU Lady Tamaraws on Saturday, January 24, as the girls in green and yellow came away with a 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18 victory at the San Juan Arena.

The win improved FEU to 4-5 and allowed them to take sole possession of fifth place in the league standings.

Second-year FEU standout Bernadette Pons led her squad with 14 points while Remy Joy Palma helped out in the win by recording 11 points. Toni Basas finished with 8.

UE, who fell to a league-worst 0-9, was led by their team captain Shaya Adorador, who fought through an ankle injury she suffered in her team's last game and put up 14 points against FEU. Angelica Dacaymat finished with 13 points.

FEU easily took the first two sets and went ahead early in the third set, 9-5. Just when it looked like they would once again succumb to an opponent, the Lady Warriors used a 10-3 run to take a three-point advantage, and managed to hold off their adversaries late in the period for their first set victory of the season.

UE's momentum carried over to the fourth set, where they established an 11-9 lead in the early goings. But it didn't take long for the Lady Tams to gather themselves, as they uncorked a 13-3 run that allowed them to take control of the set to seal the game.

FEU will be back in action on Sunday, February 1, when they take on UST, while UE's next match will also take place on the same afternoon as they go head to head with Adamson.
