MANILA, Philippines - The National University Lady Bulldogs snapped their three-game losing streak by defeating the University of the East Lady Warriors, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 on Saturday afternoon, February 7, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

The towering Jaja Santiago led the winning club with 14 points while veteran Myla Pablo pitched in 12 markers. UE was spearheaded by Angelica Dacaymat, who put up 11 points. Leuseht Dawis and Shaya Adorador combined for 12 points each.

It was a one-sided affair for almost the entire contest, as NU cruised to a much-needed win following losses to Ateneo, UST, and La Salle.

In the first set, the Lady Bulldogs raced off to a 14-4 lead. UE mounted a 4-0 run, but it didn’t take long for their opponents to re-take momentum en route to winning the set.

UE was up by one, 10-11, momentarily in the second set before NU bounced back to take the period. In the third set, conversions by Dacaymat gave her team an early threshold, but consecutive errors by UE put the Lady Bulldogs back in the driver’s seat, leading to the loss.

The win improved National U’s record to 5-6 in the women’s volleyball tourney of UAAP Season 77. UE fell to 0-11, and remains without a win in the past two seasons.

The Lady Bulldogs had 36 spike points while the Lady Warriors recorded just 29. NU had 11 blocks, UE registered 0.

Santiago and company will be back in action on Saturday, February 14, when they go up against the FEU Lady Tamaraws. UE will take on La Salle on Wednesday, February 11.
