The top seven teams remained the same in this AVCA Division I Coaches Poll and for the third consecutive week Nebraska is a unanimous No. 1. The Huskers, 22-1 overall and 13-1 in the Big Ten, got all 64 first-place votes.
But in the NCAA RPI, a key criteria in NCAA Tournament seeding, Wisconsin is No. 1, followed by Texas, Nebraska, Minnesota and San Diego.
Two other Big Ten schools follow, No. 2 Minnesota and No. 3 Wisconsin. Kansas of the Big 12 is fourth, followed by league rival Texas, the SEC’s Florida and San Diego of the West Coast Conference.
The first change from last week’s AVCA is North Carolina advancing four spots to No. 8, a spot previously held by Washington, who dropped to 11 last week. No. 9 Stanford also moved up four notches. Penn State went from 11th to No. 10 after breaking a four-match losing streak by beating Iowa.
Florida State took the biggest fall, going from 10th to No. 18.
Missouri finally broke into the AVCA poll at No. 21 and Arizona is in at No. 25. Ohio State, USC and Washington State dropped out.
Florida is No. 6 in the RPI and BYU is No. 7, followed by Stanford, North Carolina and Kansas.
Other RPI rankings of note include No. 11 Michigan, 17th in the AVCA, and Missouri at No. 12. Kansas State, not ranked, is No. 21, Penn State is No. 22 and Texas A&M, also not ranked in the AVCA, is No. 23. Hawai’i, the No. 14 team in the AVCA, has an RPI of No. 38.
