Nebraska has returned to the top spot of the AVCA Division I coaches poll.
However, the NCAA RPI, which weighs heavily in the selection criteria of the NCAA Tournament, still has Wisconsin at No. 1.
The Huskers are 16-1 overall and a game behind Penn State at 7-1 in the Big Ten. Nebraska was the No. 1 team in the AVCA poll from the first preseason list on August 10 until October 3, two days after their only loss which came to Ohio State.
Wisconsin, which lost to Minnesota, this past week, is 15-7 overall and also 7-1 in the Big Ten. Texas is No. 2 in both lists, while Nebraska is No. 3 in the RPI.
Among the RPI rankings of note, North Carolina is No. 5, Kentucky is No. 18, Penn State is 19th, and Kansas, No. 6 in the AVCA, is No. 26. Creighton is No. 27, TCU is No. 28 and Marquette comes in at 30th.
In the AVCA, Nebraska was up a notch. Texas is the new No. 2, a spot it also formerly held, up two spots. Minnesota stayed at No. 3 and last week’s No. 1, Wisconsin, dropped to fourth. The next four teams all held their spots, No. 5 San Diego, No. 6 Kansas, No. 7 Washington and No. 8 North Carolina.
The biggest jump in the AVCA was by UCLA, which went from 20th to No. 15. The only new team is cross-town rival USC, which had been ranked previously this season.
Both lists were released Monday afternoon.
